Sky Glass Review 2024 – Are the new packages worth it?

Sky Glass

Sky Glass is Sky’s Smart TV, but we all know they couldn’t have called it ‘Sky TV’ because that would have been really silly. They’ve opted for a reasonably descriptive name to differentiate it from their TV packages so don’t worry, you are not reading about a sky light roof window. You’ve found a review of Sky’s complete TV entertainment system: Sky Glass.

The super attractive Sky Glass ‘smarter’ TV will dress your living room like a prince and your walls will feel like they’ve just been knighted by the King himself as you hang up one of five lovely unique styles and colours of Sky Glass to match your decor.

Sky Glass TV aesthetics

Sky has gone all-in and housed their fancy technology in the finest premium materials and top quality design making probably one of the nicest looking TV’s out there. It’s not really that hard to beat the usual ominous black box TV design, but Sky certainly thought you deserved better than that.

What really matters though is what’s going on inside the sleek rectangle and Sky has spared no expense here either, taking full advantage of QLED Quantum Dot Technology. And Sky has made great improvements to the devices picture quality for 2024, since Sky Glass was first launched. You’ll have over 8.3 million tiny little lights shining in your eyes delivering an ultra sharp picture with much richer colours (a billion colours to be exact) and deeper darks than standard displays, all for that ultimate immersive experience.

Sky Glass TV QLED vibrance

And something that is usually left as an afterthought with flat screen TVs is sound quality, but I think you know what i’m going to say next – Sky have sussed it out. They’ve squeezed the biggest subwoofer anyone has managed to fit into a flat screen TV into Sky Glass for super rich and powerful bass tones. Sky Glass delivers excellent sound quality by any standards in all directions filling your room with 360° Dolby Atmos surround sound. Groovy.

Sky Glass TV Audio

Sky Glass is everything you need to watch your premium Sky content the way it’s supposed to be watched and without the need for a dish or a Sky box. Everything in one device and yes that means only one plug behind your TV unit, yay!

What does Sky Glass do?

Sky Glass voice control

Sky Glass is a streaming platform that puts all of your TV channels, shows, movies and apps all into one easy to navigate place and you can access everything with your voice without a controller from the couch.

Sky Glass uses Far-field voice detection so just sit down and say ‘Hello Sky’ from anywhere and find what you want to watch with your voice completely hands free. There is also a controller included as well to navigate Sky Glass the usual way if you’ve already got a best friend and don’t have the time for a new relationship.

Limited time offer

No Dish or Box needed with Sky Glass

Sky Glass receives all of your Sky channels and subscriptions without the need of an extra Sky box or dish by streaming all of your content through your broadband connection. You can connect Sky Glass to your broadband either through a WiFI connection or Ethernet cable. Sky Glass requires a broadband connection of 25Mbps to view your content in HD, and UHD requires a connection of at least 30Mbps.

Apps on Sky Glass

Sky Glass has all of your favourite apps available on the platform like Prime Video, Netflix, Youtube, Disney+, Apple TV, Amazon Music, Spotify, FiiT, BBC iPlayer, ITV hub and All4 and more. There are 21 apps available in total on the Sky Glass platform.

The Sky Glass QLED Display

The QLED display in a Sky Glass TV is a superior technology over conventional LED TV’s that uses a layer of quantum dots and some clever hocus-pocus to make the colours way more vibrant. You’ll find your Sky Glass TV has a much richer and more immersive picture than conventional LED TV’s.

Sky Glass TV QLED Display

Sky Glass’s picture quality has taken some flak since it was first launched in 2021 but Sky has heard the complaints and a lot of improvements have been made with the newer models. But is Sky Glass as good as a stand alone top of the range QLED TV? Probably not. But if you consider how much you are paying for an expensive TV, plus a soundbar, Sky Glass starts to make sense – it is a complete entertainment system, very decent quality, for a very decent amount of money.

Is QLED better than OLED?

So while OLED is more expensive, QLED actually has the upper hand in terms of brightness and colour vibrance and they both display the same billion colour range. If you want an ultra realistic perfect picture the OLED TV is the best you can buy, it has individually controlled LEDs for each tiny pixel that light up without the need for a backlight and they can turn off completely when there’s a dark area creating unmatched contrast. QLED on the other hand does use a backlight which still has its advantages in terms of brightness and combines it with a fancy ‘quantum dot’ layer to give you an exciting punchy vibrant picture for your entertainment that OLED can’t match. And yeah, Sky Glass has that.

The revered Sky Glass sound system

The sound system in Sky Glass is making a lot of noise out there with critics and happy customers alike and rightly so, it’s a very powerful cinema-style sound system all crammed into the seamless design of Sky Glass. And even after reading all the buzz about it you’ll still be surprised when you hear it for real.

Six powerful speakers are set into the frame that project sound in all directions to create 360° Dolby Atmos surround sound and Sky have managed to make room for the biggest subwoofer that’s ever been put inside a flat screen TV. It’s a wonder the woofer doesn’t blow Sky Glass apart, but Sky have thought of that! The casing of Sky Glass is made from premium grade solid aluminium to ensure everything holds together while the ‘sonic boom’ is shaking your room apart.

To activate Dolby Atmos you can get the Sky UHD and Dolby Atmos pack from Sky for £6 a month extra and this optimises Sky Cinema and Sky Sports for the ultimate Dolby Atmos experience.

How much does Sky Glass cost?

Sky Glass comes in 3 sizes Small (43″), Medium (55″) and Large (65″) and the size of the piles of money would have corresponded accordingly if Sky hadn’t swooped in and saved the day once again. Sky have made their state-of-the-art Sky Glass entertainment system actually pretty affordable with their monthly payment plans. You do however have to pay for your Sky TV subscriptions on top, which can add up but you are getting everything you could possibly need to enjoy your TV experience with Sky Glass, apart from the popcorn.
